The Sarens crawler crane SGC-250 ('Big Carl') has lifted the second reactor pressure vessel at the British nuclear power plant Hinkley Point C. The crane with a lifting capacity of 5,000 tons has been in use on the construction site of the 26-billion-euro project since 2019. With the installation of both pressure vessels for reactor blocks EPR1 and EPR2, the heavy-lift operation marks a central milestone in the construction schedule of the French-Chinese facility. According to operator EDF, the SGC-250 will remain on site for further assembly work on the reactor buildings.
