The Wirtgen Group is testing a laser sensor for automatic edge detection at its Heidelberg location on Vögele pavers. The technology, referred to as 'Edge Detection', is designed to relieve machine operators of paving control tasks and reduce material consumption through more precise guidance. The sensor detects the road edge via laser and automatically adjusts the paving width, eliminating the need for manual corrections during the paving process. The Wirtgen Group considers this system another step toward digitalization and partial automation in road construction.
