Safety and regulations: stability is the core challenge in high-reach demolition. DGUV Vorschrift 38 and standard DIN 18008 govern safety zones around the demolition site. Sprinkler systems on the boom reduce dust exposure and calm the neighbours. Cabin with ROPS/FOPS reinforcement, armoured-glass windows, air conditioning with filter system (M-class filter for asbestos suspicion) are standard. Operator training: DGUV Grundsatz 309-005 and at least 200 h practice on ULD excavators before solo operation.

Purchase and rental: new prices 2025: Cat 340 UHD EUR 780,000-950,000, Liebherr R 950 Demolition EUR 890,000-1.1 million, large demolition excavator 60-t class EUR 1.4-1.8 million. Due to the niche application and high acquisition costs, rental companies dominate the market: Rentek (Zell/DE), Kiesel Baumaschinen, Zeppelin Rental and Beutlhauser have specialised demolition fleets.
