The attachment is the interchangeable tool at the end of the excavator boom, wheel loader or telehandler. Categories and manufacturers: the attachment market is highly diversified. Standard excavator buckets are supplied by OEMs (Cat, Komatsu, Volvo, Liebherr, Kubota) as well as specialised bucket makers such as Kinshofer, Lehnhoff, Verachtert and Rockland Systems. For demolition attachments (shears, pulverisers) Epiroc (Swedish brand, ex-Atlas Copco), Rammer, Genesis, MB Crusher, Furukawa and Indeco dominate. For demolition rigging (shears, pulverisers, sorting grapples), attachment investment can exceed the value of the base machine — a Cat 340 UHD with full demolition rig at EUR 890,000 plus EUR 180,000 in attachments is typical. The German attachment market has a volume of approx. EUR 380-450 million per year with 5-8 percent annual growth since 2020.
Trends: fully automatic coupler systems with hydraulic engagement (OilQuick FA, Lehnhoff Symlock-QC) reached the mass market from 2020 — swap time under 30 seconds. Digital attachment recognition (RFID chip in the tool, cab automatically detects which tool is attached and loads matching hydraulic settings) is standard on Cat, Komatsu and Liebherr premium ranges. Electrification is reaching attachments too: electric hydraulic hammers (Epiroc SmartROC electric) for emission-free indoor sites.
