The cross-conveyor belt (also known as side discharge belt or side belt) is a laterally mounted conveyor belt on mobile crushing and screening plants. It transports the crushed or screened material sideways and creates free-standing stockpiles without requiring a wheel loader for material removal. This significantly reduces personnel and machinery costs.
Typical belt widths range between 500 and 1,200 mm, with conveying capacity reaching 100 to 500 tons per hour depending on the model. The belt is hydraulically adjustable in height and lateral direction and can be folded in for transport. In screening plants, two or three cross-conveyor belts often separate different grain sizes into separate stockpiles.
Modern cross-conveyor belts feature belt scrapers, impact plates at the feed point, and optional overband magnets for metal separation. Manufacturers such as Kleemann, Metso, and Sandvik integrate them directly into their mobile crushing and screening plants.
