The PowerTilt (also known as tiltrotator precursor or slew motor) is a hydraulic attachment mounted between excavator boom and quick coupler that allows the bucket to slew around its transverse axis — typically ±45° to ±90°. This enables grading of slopes and trenches without repositioning the machine.
In contrast to the full-featured tiltrotator (which additionally offers 360° continuous rotation), the PowerTilt features simpler construction, lower weight, and lower cost. It is particularly suited for mini excavators and compact excavators where weight and height are critical factors. Manufacturers such as Lehnhoff, Oilquick, and Rototilt offer PowerTilt systems for excavators from 1.5 to 30 tonnes.
Operation is via proportional joystick buttons or a separate control lever. In Scandinavia, tiltrotators are virtually standard — in Germany, market share is growing rapidly, particularly in pipeline construction and landscape engineering, where the additional mobility significantly increases work speed.
