Onboard weighing systems record the weight of loaded material directly on the construction machine in real time. On wheel loaders, pressure sensors in the lift cylinders measure bucket payload during the lifting process. On articulated dump trucks, strain gauges on the suspension bolts weigh the truck bed load. Accuracies: ±1–3% for dynamic, ±0.5% for static weighing.

The economic benefits are considerable: no overloading (tire damage, fines), no underloading (wasted trips), exact quantity recording for billing and material management. Printer connection or cloud transmission of weighing data enables automatic delivery notes directly from the machine.

System providers such as Pfreundt, VEI (Vision Engineering), Trimble, and Loadrite (Trimble) offer retrofittable systems for all machine types. Calibration-capable weighing systems (according to MID/OIML R76) replace the platform scale and significantly accelerate material handling. Komatsu and Volvo CE increasingly integrate weighing systems from the factory in their wheel loaders and dump trucks.
