Volvo Construction Equipment is currently testing its electric wheel loader L120 Electric at a Swedish sawmill under harsh winter conditions. The test is designed to show whether battery technology works economically at sub-zero temperatures and in continuous operation with wood handling. So far, electric wheel loaders have often failed due to reduced range in cold weather and long charging downtime. For operators in Nordic regions or winter applications, the practical test could clarify whether electrification of heavy loaders is economically viable.
