The Sarens SGC-250 crane, known as 'Big Carl', has successfully installed the second reactor pressure vessel at the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset. The lift marks a key milestone in the £26 billion project, which is set to provide 7% of Britain's electricity once operational. Big Carl, with a maximum lifting capacity of 5,000 tonnes, is the world's largest land-based crane and has been on site since 2019 to handle the heaviest components of the twin-reactor facility being constructed by EDF Energy.
