JCB is continuing development of a hydrogen-powered version of its 3CX backhoe loader, aiming to deliver zero-emission operation on construction sites. The British manufacturer has been testing hydrogen combustion technology as an alternative to battery-electric drives, particularly for high-duty-cycle machines where charging downtime would impact productivity. The 3CX is JCB's most popular model globally, making it a strategic platform for hydrogen deployment. While technical specifications and commercial availability have not yet been confirmed, the project represents one of the industry's most prominent hydrogen development programmes in the compact equipment sector.
