Wacker Neuson is launching three new mini excavators on the European market. The Bavarian manufacturer is focusing on digitalization, EU Stage V compliance, and compact design to strengthen its position in the 1 to 3-ton class. The expansion of the product range is a direct response to growing competitive pressure from Kubota and Komatsu in the mini excavator segment.
The Munich-based manufacturer is concentrating its offensive on urban construction sites and the utilities sector. The new models have an operating weight range between 1.5 and 2.8 tons. All three mini excavators come standard with EU Stage V-compliant engines, SCR catalytic converters, and particle filters. Wacker Neuson thus meets increasingly stringent regulations in urban low-emission zones.
Integrated telematics is the central aspect of the new generation. All models are equipped with cloud connectivity, which enables real-time monitoring of operating hours, fuel consumption, and maintenance intervals. For fleet managers, this means: more precise maintenance planning and reduction of machine downtime by up to 15%, according to manufacturer specifications. The digital interface is compatible with existing fleet management systems.
In design, Wacker Neuson relies on the Zero Tail Swing concept. The compact rear enables work in tight spaces without exceeding the width of the tracks. This advantage is particularly decisive for excavation work in historic city centers, street renovation sites, and work on utility networks. The swing radius does not exceed 1.60 meters on the smaller models.
In hydraulics, the new mini excavators offer a flow rate of 30 liters per minute on the 2.8-ton models. This is sufficient for powering attachments such as hydraulic hammers, mills, or grapplers. The hydraulic quick coupler system is available as an optional extra, with estimated additional costs between 1,800 and 2,400 euros depending on size.
The maximum digging depth reaches 2.65 meters on the mid-size model. The breaking force of the bucket is specified at 18.5 kN, a value that is on par with Japanese competitors. For comparison: Kubota specifies 19.2 kN in the corresponding class, Takeuchi remains at 17.8 kN. The difference is noticeable in compacted subsoil, less so in excavation work in loose soil.
With this step, Wacker Neuson strengthens its position in the market for mini excavators for urban construction sites. The German company competes directly with Japanese brands that have dominated the compact segment for years. Kubota holds approximately 28% of the European mini excavator market under 3 tons, Takeuchi 14%, Wacker Neuson stands at around 9%. The stated goal: to achieve a market share of 12% by 2026.
The first models will reach dealers in the second quarter of 2025. List prices have not been officially disclosed yet. On the German market, prices between 32,000 and 48,000 euros are expected depending on equipment. The standard warranty covers 2 years or 2,000 operating hours, extendable to 3 years with a maintenance contract.
